Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children, Donna (Gregg) Sutton of Masonville, IA, Tom (Crissy) Arens and Mary Jo (Steve) Friedmann both of Dyersville, IA; a daughter-in-law, Barb Schmitt of Dyersville, IA; 10 grandchildren: Corey (Stefani) DeMoss, Brian Arens, Holly Sutton (friend, Jimmy Doyle), Jordan Bildstein, Brady, McKenzie, Sydney and Kennedy Arens, Nicholas and Rachel Friedmann, and Baby Arens (Tom & Crissy's) due next week; and one great-granddaughter, Emma DeMoss.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rick Arens; a brother, Baby Boy Arens; and sisters, Rosa Langel, Molly Hahn, Agnes Weber, Stasia Bonert and Leona Demmer.

Dick was born on August 15, 1920 in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of John Henry and Bernadina Maria (Johannes) Arens. He married Mary Kathryn Mormann on October 20, 1948 at SS. Peter & Paul Church in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they farmed west of Dyersville. He was a former member of the local Musician's Union and manager of the Dyersville Flyers baseball team.
