Mabel E. Powers, 89, of the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center, Upper Providence, died early Wednesday morning in the center's skilled nursing unit, where she had been a patient for more than two years. She was the wife of the late Carlton M. Powers, who died in 1993.

Born in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Irvin R. and Cora Mary (Schaffer) Eckert. A resident of Lansdale for several years, she moved to Souderton in the 1950s. She entered the center in 1993.

Mrs. Powers worked for the former Peerless Footwear of Telford for more than 30 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a long, time member of the Little Zion Lutheran Church, Telford.

Mrs. Powers is survived by a daughter JoAnn Smith of San Diego, Calif.; a son, C. Richard Weaver and his wife, Regina, Souderton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 46 years, Cyril Paul Weaver, who died in 1972; and four sisters, Myrtle Mummert, Esther Eckert, Hilda Knox, and an infant sister.
