Elfriede Leibacher Biggerstaff was born on July 19, 1925 in Karlstein, Germany to Amelia and Johann Leibacher. She passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in Columbus, Georgia after a brief illness.
Oma, as she was called by her family, was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was always the most important aspect of her life. She was an excellent cook and loved feeding her bunch! She definitely had a green thumb and everyone looked forward to being the recipient of her gardens.
Mrs. Biggerstaff was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert C. Biggerstaff, and her brother Adolph Leibacher.
She is survived by her daughters Charlotte Trageser and husband Erich of Karlstein, Germany, Norma Hyde and husband Luther of Columbus, GA, and son US Army LTC Thomas W. Biggerstaff and wife Tamara of Fayetteville, NC. Oma is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Trageser, Daniel Trageser, Sean Hyde and wife Erin, Karin Hyde Tyson and husband Joshua, Christopher Biggerstaff, and Adam Biggerstaff, and great-granddaughter Alexandra Grace Tyson. Friede is survived by her siblings Ferdinand, Wilhelm, Wolfgang, and Klaus Leibacher, Sophie Liebl, all of Germany, and Anna Richardson of Columbus, GA and by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, January 28, 2013 from 5-7 PM at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 11 AM at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL with the Rev. Jonathan Gates, minister at Asbury United Methodist Church, presiding.
