A. Henry Doedtman was one of five children born to German immigrants, Jacob and Elizabeth Selhorst Doedtman. He was born at Green Creek and attended school there.
He married Mary Hoelscher Doedtman, the widow of his older brother Joseph, in 1890. They were married 18 years and had two children William and Mary. His ages in the 1860 census as 7 and 1870 as 17 suggest his birth year perhaps was 1852 or 1853.
Henry died of cancer, leaving his children, wife and two sisters, Mrs. H. Schabbing and Mrs. Clem Gier. His obituary in the Teutopolis Press Nov. 12, 1908, said, “He had been afflicted for a number of years and death was a relief to him.”
