The daughter of Bernard and Gertrude Hoelscher, she married Joseph Doedtman in 1869 and they had six children. The oldest, Henry, died at age 6. The others were John, Katherine (Waldhoff), Joseph, Anna (Habing) and Henry. Her husband died in 1889 and she married his brother, Anton Henry, the next year. They had two children, William and Mary Elizabeth (Apke).
