Bronte is a small town up the mountain from the large coastal city of Catania in Eastern Sicily.

Peppino grew up in Bronte and did his schooling there.
There were very few jobs in Bronte and he wanted to leave the poverty of this region.
So, as a young man he joined the Italian Navy and became a career man. He started out as an enlisted sailor. Peppino rose through the ranks and became an officer. During WWII he served in the submarine forces and saw combat in the North African area. His unit was capptured by American forces and he became a POW and was sent to a POW camp in the USA.
After the war ended he was sent back to Italy and he resumed his Italian Navy career. He would retire with many years of service.
He married Iolanda Petrovich of Northern Italy around 1940 and they would have one child.
Daugher, Anna-Maria.
Giuseppe and his family would make their home in the beautiful, sea-side city of La Spezia in Northern Italy.
