AUSTINTOWN - Diana Halas, 55, passed away peacefully late Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013, at Hospice House with her family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Diana was born June 13, 1957 in San Diego, a daughter of the late Stephan and Mary Pero Pastor, came to Youngstown with her family as a child and graduated in 1975 from Chaney High School.

After high school, Diana worked for Commercial Metal Forming, and became the first female apprentice, and then the first female union president at the company in its 90-year history. As president, she won numerous cases in arbitration, civil rights, and before the National Labor Relations Board, and her name will be forever on contracts she signed as head of the union. As a member of the Women of Steel, she lobbied in Washington D.C. for healthcare reform.

After suffering kidney failure, and receiving a successful kidney transplant, Diana retired from Commercial Metal Forming and enrolled at Youngstown State University, focusing on studying social work in order to be a transplant patient advocate. While at YSU, Diana made the dean's list.

Of all of her life's accomplishments, none were as important to her as her three children she raised and her seven grandchildren she left her mark on. Through them, she helped change their generation.

Diana was of the Catholic faith. She loved riding Harley Davidson's with her husband, and always encouraged others to be organ donors so that those in need could have a second chance at life, as she had.

Her life's mission was to make smiles, not tears, and for others to be happy that they had known her, and not sad that they had lost her.

Diana leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Kevin Halas, whom she married Aug. 6, 1988; her three children, Shawn Robert (Jamie) Halas of Coconut Creek, Fla., Timothy (Jennifer) Halas of Boardman, and Mindy Wiesensee of Struthers; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Charles, Brandon, Julie, Jordan, George, and Kevin; a brother, Stephen (Deborah) Pastor of Youngstown; a half-brotehr, Gary Miles; and two half-sisters, Betty Lou Stellutto and Jane Depoy.

Diana will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Diana was preceded in death by a half-brother, Jerry Miles.

Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
