Services for Russell W. Dittmar, 88, Lawrence, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Military graveside services will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry.

Mr. Dittmar died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

He was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Siemen Dittmar. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in Illinois in 1934.

Mr. Dittmar served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945, during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951 and in Korea from 1961 to 1962. He retired from the U.S. Army as a captain in 1965 and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart in Sicily and the Legion of Merit in Anzio. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1965 to 1978 as a postal clerk. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 of the American Legion.

He married Mary Margaret Dunigan on Sept. 3, 1945, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Russell W. Jr., Marysville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
