LAKELAND - Peden Boyd "Bud" Coker passed on February 22, 2013 from natural causes at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 6, 1921, in Lakeland, to Lewis and America Summeralls Coker. He was a fourth generation Floridian. The Coker family has been in Florida since the 1820s, settling first in Zolfo Springs.
Bud's most recent work was as a private investigator and process server, in which he was actively engaged until recently when his health failed. He retired after many years with the Office of State Attorney. Prior to that he sold Woodmen of the World insurance. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason and also a member of the Lions Club. He was a founding charter member of Parkview Baptist Church in Lakeland. Bud was a practical, hard working, and caring person who left a lasting impression on anyone he met. Upon leaving someone he visited, he often said, "Well, I'm glad you got to see me."
Bud is survived by his wife of 71 years, Louise Lewis Coker; his grandchildren, Henry and Sarah Coker; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is predeceased by his son, Ray Coker.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 5:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Parkview Baptist Church, 509 Parkview Place Lakeland, FL 33805.
