She was pre-deceased by her husband of twenty-five years, Alfred Forsythe Simpson. She is survived by her son, Allan and his wife Melody, brother, Peden ("Bud") Coker and his wife Louise, grand-daughter, Lauren and her husband Jon Storck, great-grand-daughter, Gretchen, niece, Betty Jean Thornhill, and grand-niece, Kathy Sweeney.
The Coker family came to central Florida in the 1820s. Ruth was the eighth child of Lewis Coker and America Summeralls. Her family included seven siblings and nine half-siblings, sixteen of whom pre-deceased her.
She worked for twenty-nine years for the Florida Citrus Commission and retired in 1985 from that position. Subsequently, she became a residential real estate broker with Coldwell Banker and retired from that position in 2011. She was a member of the National Association of Realtors and numerous other professional real estate organizations.
A memorial service will be held on January 12, 2013 at 2:30 pm in the chapel at the First United Methodist Church. Following the memorial service, interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
