"Old Man Zima," of David City, who was brutally assaulted with clubs by the three Kasner brothers, died of his wounds on the 25th. The murderers are in jail. The row took place at the wedding of the old man's son to a sister of the Kasners about a month ago. Both parties reside some ten miles northwest of David City. After the wedding beer was tapped and freely used by the assembled guests and from effects of it a quarrel arose between Frank Zima, father of the groom, and three brothers of the bride, James, Charles and Joseph Castner. The quarrel ended in open fight and about 9 o'clock in the evening old man Zima was picked up for dead, having had his skull crushed with a beer glass in the hands of one of the three brothers.

Kastner Convicted of Manslaughter.
DAVID CITY, Neb., Dec. 27. – Court adjourned Friday evening, having been in session since last Monday. The only business transacted of any importance was the trial of James Kastner, who was indicted for the murder of Frank Zima in April, 1884 [1885]. The jury found him guilty of manslaughter. Sentence has not been pronounced. It is probable that he will get about three years in the penitentiary. Frank Zima was killed by the Kastner brothers, James and Charles, at the wedding when his son was married to their sister. Charles was convicted of manslaughter one year ago, and is serving out a three years' sentence. Whisky and beer were the cause of the act.
