Veteran Barber Called By Death

Christopher Mader Died Wednesday Morning at Home of Son, Charles Mader. Was Former Mayor.

Christopher Mader, resident of Waverly since 1873, and for many years engaged in the barber business, died Wednesday morning, August 17, at 6 o'clock at the home of his son, Charles Mader. Mr. Mader had not been leading an active life for the past few years, but until the past week or so was able to go down town.

Mr. Mader was born in Hanover, Germany, November 10, 1846, being 74 years, 9 months and 7 days of age at the time of his death. He came to the United States in 1869, and settled at Winchester, coming to Waverly in 1873, where he has been in the barber business until two years ago. He was married in 1876 to Mary Slaughter, who preceded him in death March 16, 1905. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Rosina Lindeman, who died four years ago; George M. and Charles F., and leaves to mourn their loss, besides his two sons, nine grandchildren.

He was brought up in the German Lutheran faith, and was confirmed and joined the church at an early age. In former years he took an active part in city affairs, having served two years as mayor, also as alderman and a member of the school board. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge a good many years.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First M. E. church, Rev. Francis E. Smith, pastor of the church, being the officiating minister. The services were in charge of the Odd Fellows' lodge.

Burial was in East cemetery.
