Robert "Bob" Slonina, age 70, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in Bullhead City, Ariz. He was born October 21, 1942 in Minneapolis, Minn.
He retired in 2000 from Apple Valley, Minnesota Police Deptment after 23 years of service. After moving to Bullhead City in 2001, he worked part-time as a security guard at WARMC until he retired again in 2011.
Bob's hobbies included golf and puttering in his garage. In their earlier years, Bob and his wife, Bette, took many trips to the Caribbean where they enjoyed scuba diving.
Shortly after moving to Bullhead City, Bob became very active at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and in the Knights of Columbus, St. Margaret Mary Council. He loved the Knights and was always very involved in the Council where he served as Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator, and was Color Guard Commander of the Fourth Degree until his death.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bette; daughter, Carole (Hank) Wilson; two sons, James Slonina and John Slonina; brother, Donald Slonina; four granddaughters, Mary Slonina, Jackie Freese, Vicki Freese, and Ronni Slonina; two grandsons, Michael Slonina and Robert Slonina II; two great-granddaughters, Yazmin Freese and Analese Wengel; and three great- grandsons, Steven Slonina, Xaver Freese, and Zayden Freese; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He will be greatly missed!
A funeral Mass will begin with a rosary at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1691 E. Oatman, Bullhead City, Ariz. with Father Peter Dobrowski officiating.
There will be a reception in the parish hall immediately following the Mass. Private interment will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Desert Lawn Memorial Gardens, 9250 S. Ranchero Lane, Mohave Valley, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob's memory to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church Building Fund, 1691 N. Oatman Road, Bullhead City, Arizona 86442.
Arrangements are under the care of Desert Lawn Funeral Home.
