She was the daughter of George P Grube and Lorena Korb Grube

Vivian Grube Ray, 91, of Altoona, formerly of Indiana, passed away Wednesday at the home of her daughter.

She was born in Punxsutawney, daughter of the late George P. and Lorena Korb Grube. She married Harry W. Ray in 1948. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2008.

She is survived by her son, Edward George Ray and Joey Ang of Palm Springs, Calif.; her daughter, Susan Ray Gunsallus and husband, Tim, of Altoona; grandson, Wade Colin Gunsallus and Alexis M. Wong of Denver, Colo.; a brother-in-law, John B. Ray and wife, Katherine, of Sun City West, Ariz.; two nieces: Judith Grube George and husband, Lisle, of Indiana and Jackie Grube Zuniga and husband, Miquel, of Lenexa, Kan.; two nephews: James Grube and wife, Cheryl, of Homer City and Alton Grube and wife, Debra, of Lansdale; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers: L. Blaine Grube and Alton Grube; and their respective wives: Bernice Grube and Annie Grube.

Mrs. Ray was a 1939 graduate of Punxsutawney High School. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers' College in 1943 with a degree in elementary education.

Mrs. Ray was a member of Graystone Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Circle, Builder's Class Sunday school and Presbyterian Church Library Board; a former member of the Bertha Sunderland Circle, and a member of the Indiana Garden Club. She served as Worthy Matron of the OES, Tyrone Chapter, in 1970, and Worthy Matron of the OES, Indiana Chapter, in 1999 and again in 2001. She served on the Board of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Homes, where she also served as historian. Mrs. Ray volunteered at St. Andrew's and Indiana Regional Medical Center.

She enjoyed traveling, reading books, knitting, and baking cookies and pies. Mrs. Ray especially loved her only grandson, Wade, and her constant companion, her dachshund, Willie.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Robinson-Lytle Inc., Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. William Milligan officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions may be made to the Graystone Presbyterian Church Library, 640 Church Street, Indiana, PA 15701, in memory of Vivian, who loved working with the library ladies on Thursdays.
