Marcus Berger was born April 16, 1909, in St. Anthony, the son of George and Margaret (Miller) Berger. He was raised and educated in Solen. He married Margaret Kary June 20, 1930, at Odense. Marcus farmed in the Solen area until 1948 when he moved to Mandan, where he worked for Kist Livestock. He started as a truck driver and owner of Berger Brothers Trucking Inc. in 1957 along with his sons, Bernie, Ray and Lucas. He retired in 1978.
He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Betty, Lodi, Calif., Dennis and Colleen, Missoula, Mont., Jim and Lorna, Bozeman, Mont., and Frank and Heidi, and Monte and Connie, all of Mandan; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorraine, Laurel, Mont., and Mary Ann (Matzi) and Gene Washburn, and Sally and Fred Schultz, all of Mandan; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy, Mandan; 39 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, George and Frances, Idaho, and Mike, and Adam and Angie, all of Mandan; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Madeline and Phil Stoltz, Seattle, Clara and Adam Berger, Flasher, and Pauline and Henry Hoffman, Mandan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret who died in 1988; three sons, Lucas, Henry and Bernie; four daughters, Gladys, Donna, Margie and Judy; three brothers, Nick, Jack and Tim; and two sisters, Catherine and Frances.
