He was the son of Henry and Letitia Johnson of 15 Conyers Street, Kirkdale, Liverpool.

9th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

The 9th Bn Loyal North Lancs where part of the 25th Division that was deployed astride the Cambrai-Bapaume road in support of forward divisions. At the end of March, till 5th April 1918 they were forced to fight a rearguard action with heavy casualties back to the defensive lines of the old Somme battlefield.

Died of wounds at the Military Hospital, Etaples.
