Elizabeth "Lizzie" Dey was born on August 6, 1904, in Pella, Wisconsin, to Edward and Maria (Gresch). She grew up there on the family farm with her siblings: Emma (Ernest) Westphal, Albert, Edward, William, Emil, Mary (Fred) Heling and Frieda. Lizzie was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pella an was united in marriage there to Walter Westphal on November 1, 1922. The couple lived in Pella where they raised their children: Sylvia Etheridge, Willis, Elaine Cupp and Sharon McHugh. Lizzie died on February 15, 1984, in Shawano, Wisconsin, at the age of 79, and was buried in Pella.
