Johann Schatte was the firstborn son of Christoph and Rosina Domaschk Schatte (Wukasch). Johann was born Nov. 14, 1849. He died of cholera on the ship Ben Nevis on Nov. 3, 1854 (4 yrs. 241 days old) and was buried at sea during the Wendish migration to Texas (Texas Wends, Their First Half Century by Lillie Moerbe Caldwell, p.49.)

Still searching for Christoph Schatte's burial plot in St. Paul's Church Cemetery at Serbin. Church records note that Christoph is buried in the cemetery, however there are notes in other documents that Christoph's grave marker along with other old grave markers were discarded at some point in time. Lillie Moerbe Caldwell's book "Texas Wends", page 71, refers to Christoph's tombstone with it's "Wendish (language) inscription.
