She married Heinrich (Henry) Reimers 17 Jan 1931 and had one child, Gunter Reimers (b: 1931) and a grandson named Peter Reimers.
Her brother Rudolf had emigrated to the U.S. in 1927 and during World War II, they had little communication with each other due to the war.
She and her husband emigrated for awhile to the U.S. in 1952, leaving the port of Hamburg on the ship Hovorn and arriving in New York on September 22. Presumably they went through Ellis Island because Ellis Island was open until 1954.
From 22 Sep 1952 until May 1958, she and Henry lived in St. Louis Missouri under the sponsorship of her brother Rudolf Plotz. Henry worked in a meat processing plant. In 1958, they went back to Germany for a vacation but never returned to the U.S. due to Henry's health problems and his preference to be in Germany. Close friends included Herman and Emma Storjohann in St. Louis who came from the same area in Germany as Hertha and Henry did.
In her retirement, Hertha and Henry worked in her son's restaurant --Henry in the mornings cleaning and Hertha from 10 pm to 3 am cooking and serving customers. They lived at 73a Bocksberg, Itzehoe with their beloved German shepherd in a bungalow surrounded by gorgeous flowers and other lush plantings.
On 17 Jan 1981 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends.
She had a warm and kind personality and cared deeply about her extended family that had emigrated to the U.S. She wrote very detailed and loving letters and is responsible for much of the genealogical information known about the Plotz Family.
It is presumed that she died in Itzehoe and is buried in a family garden cemetery with her husband Henry, her parents, her sister Alma and her husband Max Suhr and her brother Rudolf in Bornhoved, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
