Mrs. Ursula Elmer, 82, Esteemed Local Lady, Dies Sunday
Aged Local Resident Dies At Hospital Following Stroke Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Ursula Elmer, 82 years of age, esteemed and highly respected
Monticello resident for the past 40 years, who passed away at 9 o'clock, Sunday night in the
St. Clare hospital, Monroe, where she had been a patient since the previous Tuesday, were
conducted at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the Zwingli Evangelical and Reformed church here.
The Rev. Alvin C. Rabehl, pastor of the Immanuel Evangelical church, Monroe, officiated in
the absence of the Rev. A. R. Achtemeier, regular pastor. Burial was in Highland cemetery.
Suffered Stroke. Mrs. Elmer suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on Tuesday of last week at her home here and was taken to the hospital, where the best medical aid available failed to bring about any
improvement in her condition, A number of years ago Mrs. Elmer was a patient at the hospital
for many weeks suffering from a broken hip, which resulted from a fall. Close friends feared
for her chances of recovery at that time but Mrs. Elmer, although frail in physical stature,
recovered remarkably well and through untiring efforts was soon able to walk with little
difficulty.

She was born May 6, 1863, in Waukesha county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wolfgang
Lindner. She attended schools in Milwaukee and was married there March 20, 1883, to
Joseph Elmer. They moved to a farm a mile and a half west of Monticello, where they made
their home until 1905, when they moved to Monticello to reside. The farm is now operated by
a grandson, Clarence H. Elmer.

Mrs. Elmer was a member of the Zwingli Evangelical and Reformed church and the Ladies'
Aid society, in which she was active for more than 60 years.

The many people who were acquainted with Mrs, Elmer entertained a deep and lasting
respect for her and news of her passing has occasioned sincere regret among them all,
Survivors include a son, Henry C. Elmer, Monticello; a daughter, Mrs. Matt H. Stauffacher,
Monroe; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Ristow and
Mrs. Emily Nacker, both of Milwaukee. Her husband died July 12, 1933, a son, Edgar, died in
infancy, and the parents, a brother, and two sisters also preceded her in death.
