Esther Eva Hass was born May 28, 1905, at Milbank, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Henrietta "Hattie" (Schafer) Hass. She moved with her family to Sanborn, ND, in 1920. She married Jacob Reuben "Reuben J." Harshman January 22, 1922, at Sanborn. The couple farmed in the Eckelson area. He died in 1963. She continued to live on the farm until December of 1996, when she entered Hi-Acres Manor.
She is survived by two sons, Clifton (Marjorie), Jamestown, and Melvin (Frances), Valley City; four sisters, Ethel Klein, Brainerd, MN; Vera Klous, Wahkon, MN; Margaret Derheim, Jamestown; and Vivian Klein, Eckelson; 12
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sons, Arnold, Raymond, and Donald; three brothers, John Jr, Joseph, and Francis; and three sisters, Helen, Cecelia and Dorothy.
Services: 1 pm Tuesday, Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City, with the Rev. Norman Winkelman officiating.
Visitation: 10 am to 8 pm today, 9 am to the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn, in the spring.
