Barbara Stehle was the fourth child and youngest daughter of Joseph and Barbara Stehle. As a child, she testified at the murder trial of Danial Gundy, the man who murdered her father in 1870. She would never marry. Barbara began her working career at various clothing manufacturers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1899, she made sweaters for the Sherlock M. Merrill Company. In 1900, she was a machine operator, probably at a clothing factory. In 1901, she answered a want ad for the Co-Op Pants Tailoring Company and was hired as a tailor. In 1902, she was a seamstress for the Edelman and Company clothing manufacturer. By 1905, she was working as a "tailoress". Tired of factory work, she became a hairdresser by the time the 1910 U. S. census was taken. Barbara was living with her brother Michael and working out of their home. She took care of her brother when he was in declining health until he died of a drug overdose. Barbara Stehle was found dead at her apartment on November 7, 1928, apparently succumbing to the gas from her illuminating lamps. She was buried at the Saint Anthony Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota in an unmarked grave.
