Elizabeth Rooney was born October 15,1868 in Ballyveaghmore County Down, Ireland .Her parents were Edward and Mary (Kanning/pronounced Cannon) Rooney. She attended grade school in Ireland . On April 9, 1885 she left Ireland ,traveling with her brother Mark. They sailed from Liverpool, England, arriving at the Port of New York on April 26. They came by train to Sabetha Kansas. She lived with her half brother Patrick Rooney for about a year, then with her brother Mark. On Jan 28th 1891 she married Nicholas Cunningham in Sabetha Kansas. Soon after there marriage they came to Jefferson County and settled in a farm 4 miles south of Gladstone. To this union 12 children were born,(7 died in infancy), Lloyd, John, Mary, Nick Jr, Arthur. Elizabeth died on September 22,1950,the day of her oldest son's (Lloyd) funeral.
