Ramona Tanner, 67, of Farmington, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at her home. She was born March 19, 1938, in Farmington, to Ruth McGee and Don Tanner. She suffered, but now she is free and in the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus.
Ramona graduated from Brigham Young University in 1960. She was a Certified Public Accountant and had her own CPA firm in Farmington since 1975. She never really retired, and she very much enjoyed helping people start their businesses with a sound accounting system.
Her work experience in Salt Lake City with Tab Systems, a computer hub, enabled her to utilize the earliest computer science in her business.
Ramona was always very active in the women's rights movement, especially championing equal pay for equal work. She used every opportunity to promote women in the business world.
Ramona had a wonderful life, traveling all the continents of the earth, including Antarctica. She would often return to her favorite places.
She also enjoyed living in the high desert Colorado Plateau, her chosen home.
Her interest in travel included learning about the different peoples and cultures of the world. She enjoyed buying her souvenirs on her trips from the poorest of the poor venders. She liked meeting the children who she said liked to chant her name, "Ramona," as she rode away with her tour.
She was interested in the animals of the world, their welfare and survival. She loved her many pets during her life and leaves behind a dearly loved dog named "Skipper."
Ramona was preceded in death by her father, Don Tanner and her brothers, Thomas, Harold and Halworth, and her sister Helen Tanner Stradling in 2004.
She is survived by her mother, Ruth McGee Tanner; her sisters, Leah Tanner Cardon, Ann and Donna Tanner, all of Farmington; her brothers, Colin, Dave, James and Steve Tanner, all of Farmington.
Anyone is welcome for viewing today, Monday, June 20, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington until 7 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kirtland Cemetery with Lonnie Moffett of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints officiating.
Ramona brought happiness to the hearts of all who loved her. She was greatly loved and admired for the ways she supported, encouraged and inspired her family and friends, who will always miss her caring and kindness.
Some of our sorrows is assuaged knowing she is reuniting with some of the people she most loved, her brother, Tommy, her father, and grandparents, Celia and Elwood McGee, to mention a few.
The family would like to thank the Northwest New Mexico Hospice, especially Betty, Jill and Maddie and also Dr. R. Graham Smith.
Ramona is in the care of Brewer, Lee & Larkin funeral home, 103 E. Ute St. Farmington, (505) 325-8688.
