Franz Buhl emigrated in 1853 from Silesia, Prussia to the Township of Charlestown. Margaretha Woelfel emigrated in 1866 from Bavaria, Germany to Elm Grove, Washington Co., WI. After spending a short time in Elm Grove, the Woelfel family moved to the Township of Charlestown. Franz and Margaretha married on February 15, 1876 at St. Martin's Parish, Charlestown and farmed the Bernhard Buhl homestead on County Hwy T, Charlestown. They had eight children:

(Feb. 27, 1896-Oct. 22, 1968 –husband of Margaret Woelfel [married June 6, 1922 at St. Martin Catholic Church, Town of Charlestown] –son of Frank Buhl [1850-1933] and Margaret Woelfel [1851-1937] –born in Wisconsin –on June 5, 1922, Frederick purchased from his parents the 162-acre farm centered at N3252 County T in Section 22, Town of Charlestown –Frederick owned this farm until his death in 1968 –his wife Elizabeth then owned this farm until dividing it in 1987 –died from "coronary thrombosis, 1 hour –arteriosclerotic heart disease –old anterior infarction, 9 years") –buried at St. Martin Catholic Cemetery, Town of Charlestown [marriage record Calumet 6-287] [death record Calumet 19-215]
