—Wm. Mewes, living 2 1/2 miles north of this city, died Monday morning and was buried beside his wife in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in this city yesterday after a funeral service at the M.E. Church South at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. S.H. Milam. He was born in Germany Aug. 30 [28], 1819, came to Missouri in March 1867. Died Feb. 10, 1890, aged 70 years, 5 months and 10 days. He leaves 5 children, 4 sons and 1 daughter. His wife died in 1874. Mr. Mewes was a quiet inoffensive citizen and many years ago was the assessor of Shelby county. He was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends.
