Koster was born August 13, 1929 in New York City, the oldest son of Henry and Marie (Nordmann) Koster. He attended Hartsdale, N.Y. Junior High School and graduated from Gorton High School, Yonkers, N.Y. in 1947 and the SUNY College at Cortland, N.Y. in 1951.
Koster served in the U.S. Army Reserve as aide-de-camp to Major General Cooper B. Rhodes and Major General Laddie Stahl, both commanding generals of the 98th Iroquois Division of upstate New York. He retired from the active Army Reserve in 1968 with the rank of Captain.
His late wife Shirley, the former Shirley Kile of Ellenville, N.Y., pre-deceased him in 1988 after 37 years of marriage.
At the familys request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Graveside service in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville with military honors.
