Carroll Daily Times Herald - July 13, 1981 - Mrs. Carrie M. Onken, 80, of Carroll, died Friday, July 10, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm. Monday, July 13, at Immanuel Lutheran church in Lidderdale with the Rev. Edgar Rosen officiating. A.L. Daenzer was organist. Serving as casketbearers were Dale Onken, Dan Onken, Duane Onken, Scott Onken, Richard McClure, and Russell Gleason. Burial was in the parish cemetery. A prayer service was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.
Mrs. Onken is survived by three sons: Laverdos, Lynel and Glenness, all of Carroll; 10 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1976, a brother, and a sister.
Mrs. Onken was born October 22, 1900, in Carroll County, a daughter of John Henry and Louise Kuschel Janssen. She was married to Elmer F. Onken June 28, 1922, at Immanuel Lutheran parsonage by the Rev. H.P. Schmidt. The Onkens farmed in Sheridan Township for 30 years before retiring and moving to Carroll in 1952.
Before entering the hospital, Mrs. Onken resided at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home for about a year. Before entering the nursing home, she lived at 218 East Ninth street in Carroll. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid.
