Henry was the son of Tobe Janssen and Anna Sophia Ahrens. He married Louis Kuschel on Feb 3, 1897 in Carroll Co, IA. They were the parents of 4 children: Anna, Carrie, Albert, and a child who died in infancy.

May 18, 1935 - Carroll Daily - J. Henry Janssen, 61 years old, life long Carroll county resident, passed away last evening at 10:45 o'clock at his home at 609 North East street. Mr. Janssen had been a sufferer of cancer for the last two years, having been bedfast the last five months. He had been cared for by Miss Mary Millenacker, R.N. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home and will be taken to the Janssen home at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon. A short service will be held at the home at 1:30 o'clock, which will be followed by the regular church services at St. Paul Lutheran church. The Rev. A.J. Mueller will be in charge. Interment will be in the family lot of the Carroll city cemetery. The pallbearers will be: L.M. Rohrbeck, Jake Sievers, Henry Sievers, Fred Kroeger, John Platt, and George D. Jacobs.

Henry Janssen, the only son of Tobe and Anna Janssen, was born April 27, 1874 in Sheridan township, Carroll county, Iowa. During his early years at home he attended the rural schools in an attainment of an education and was confirmed in the Lidderdale Lutheran church by the Rev. J. Sesaler.

He was married to Louis Kuschel, a sister of Frank Kuschel and Mrs. R.C.P. Berger, on Feb 3, 1897. He continued to farm until the spring of 1922, when he and his wife retired to the Jenssen home on North East street. His wife passed away July 21, 1933.

His 82 year old mother, Mrs. Anna Janssen, who had been making her home with her son, survives.

There were four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Janssen, one died in infancy, the other three surviving their parents. They are: (Anna) Mrs. C.H. Kraemer of Onargo, Illinois; (Carrie) Mrs. Elmer Onken living north of Carroll; and Albert Janssen. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren, 2 sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, 3 nieces, and many relatives.

He was a devout member of the St. Paul Lutheran church and had been a church deacon three terms.
