He was one of the pioneer residents of this county having lived continuously on the home place the past 43 years. During that time he had made for himself and his estimable family a host of friends who sincerely mourn his death.

He was a loving and kind husband and father, a good neighbor and one of those excellent and sturdy citizens who make up the best part of this county's citizenship. He was a man who by hard and indefatigable work had hewn out a competency and assisted in making this excellent community what it is today.

Gerd J. Eilts was born in Bermonken, Ostfriedland, Germany, December 14, 1843. When a young man, in 1868, he came to this country and located in Jones county, this state. In 1873 he was married to Mary F. Jacobs. He was the stepfather of her two children who are Mrs. J.B. McCrary of Carroll and Mrs. Wilke Jacons of Wilcox, Sask., Canada. The four children born to this union are Mrs. C.J. Subbert, Mrs. Geo. Harmening, Mrs. J.C. Wenck, and Mrs. C.L. Platt, all of Sheridan township.

He leaves to mourn his death all of these children and a wife, also a sister in Germany. The funeral was held from the Lutheran church in Sheridan township Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Smith. A large attendance of old friends and neighbors were present to pay their last sad respects to one whom they had loved and honored in life.
