Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 26, 2013 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Mrs. Norris Venable, 81, the former Rita Mae Bernard. Mrs. Venable, a native of Gradnigo Island, La. and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 7:56 A.M. Wednesday, July 24 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, La. Father Corey Campeaux will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include her husband, Norris Venable of Church Point; three sons, John Earl Venable, James Ray Venable and wife Peggy and Gary Joseph Venable and wife Lisa-all of Church Point; a daughter, Brenda Doucet and husband Michael of Church Point; three sisters, Blanche Lyons of Church Point, Eva Mae Grimes of Liberty, Tex. and Elaine Marks of Opelousas; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Heribert and Adele (Stelly) Bernard; five brothers: Joseph, Lawrence, Leroy, Murphy and Yves Bernard and an infant sister, Blanche Bernard.
The family requested that visiting hours begin at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 25 and continue uninterrupted until the time of the services on Friday. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday by Deacon Bryne Winn.
