Adelheid was the daughter of Otto I, Duke von Braunschweig-Lüneburg and Mathilde von Brandenburg.
In 1262, she married Henry I, Landgrave of Hesse, the son of Henry II, Duke of Brabant and Sophie of Thuringia.
They were the parents of four daughters and three sons.
