Martha Ann Serfoss was born on February 10, 1933. The eldest daughter of the late Irene and Manuel Schmalz, Marti passed away with her family by her side on August 3, 2013 at Hope West Hospice in Grand Junction, CO. She was raised in Delta CO and was the eldest of 14 children. She married the love of her life, Dwight Serfoss on July 13, 1953. They moved to Cortez in 1957. She was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and worked at various clerical positions the most recent being the office manager for Moss TV.
Martha enjoyed reading, crocheting, solving puzzles, playing cards and above all spending time with her family. She was generous and kind and looked for the good in everyone. Her love of God and family was felt by all who knew her.
Martha is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dwight, children Jeanie (Chuck) Morris from Grand Junction; David (Barb) Serfoss from Cortez; Jim (Cindy) Serfoss from Grand Junction, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Preceding Martha in death were sons Thomas and Larry, and 5 brothers.
A rosary will be said on Friday, August 9th at 6 p.m. and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 10:00 a.m. both at St. Margaret Mary Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church Youth Group: 28 E Montezuma Ave, Cortez, CO 81321.
