Shortly after his death in 1979, Johanna met Oscar McFarland who introduced her to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was baptized in 1980 and the two were married in 1981 in the Hawaiian Temple. She said that "The Lord granted my greatest wish: Through this I inherited a precious, large family." Their marriage was a 19 year honeymoon. Johanna was a loving wife, and "Oma" to 26 grandchildren, a talented knitter and amazing chef.
