From Hazleton PA Newspaper, Mar. 6, 1936:
George M. Zierdt, aged 77 years, died yesterday at 8:10 am at his home, 139 East Broad street, West Hazleton from the effects of a stroke suffered last Saturday. He was born May 10, 1858 in this city. On May 1, 1881, he was married here to Martha E. Baum.

He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Anna Rohde of West Hazleton; Raymond Zierdt, also of West Hazleton; Mrs. Ruth Lemmond of Forty Fort; also one brother, Henry Zierdt of this city and one sister Mrs. Catherine Gicking of this city and the following grandchildren: Elizabeth Rohde, George Rohde, Edwin Zierdt, Raymond Zierdt, Robert Zierdt, James Zierdt, Charles Lemmond, George Lemmond. Two children, Albert and Edwin Zierdt, are now deceased.

He was a member of the Hazleton Trinity Lutheran church. He was organist at Grace Reformed church here seven years and organist at the West Hazleton Trinity Lutheran church twenty-seven years. Mr. Zierdt was a member and secretary of the first school board in West Hazleton, and was a charter member of the Order of Independent Americans, Council No. 943. He served as West Hazleton Borough Assessor, was a West Hazleton Councilman, street commissioner and had been president of the West Hazleton Building and Loan Association for many years.

The funeral will take place Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with services at the house by Rev. H. Clay Bergstresser, pastor of the Hazleton Trinity Lutheran church. Interment will be in the Vine street cemetery.
