Gully was born December 31, 1886 in Willow Lake, Collins Township, Dakota Territory. He was united in marriage to Esther Heitt on June 16, 1913, at Willow Lake. They farmed in neighboring Hague Township where he lived until eight years ago when they moved to Watertown. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Cliff Wiley and Mrs. Peter Veenhuizen, Seattle, Washington; four sons, John, Willow Lake, Gordon Castlewood, Paul and Norbert, Seattle; four brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Lawrence, Willow Lake, and Dr. R. J. Gully, Ft. Meade, SD; one sister, Sister M. Clotilda, Milbank, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by on daughter, a brother James and a sister Ellen Gully.
