At the family home in Racine, June 19, 1912, Jacob Bernhardt died. He was born in Rhine Provinces, Germany, June 21, 1834, came to America when a boy with his widowed mother who had relatives in Racine. He married and lived there until after the birth of the first child - son Matt, then came to Cassville where the other children were born, grew up and went from here into homes of their own, all excepting one living in Racine. Mr. Bernhardt and his wife went there to live in 1902. After a long illness he passed away leaving a widow; sons Matt, Jacob, Chris, Wm. C. (of Monona, Iowa), Charles and Jacob; daughters Mesdames Minnie Ketting, Dean Bayermann, Mary Oehmen and Anna Frederickson. Kate - Mrs. Frederickson died several years ago and three infants are buried in Cassville. Funeral for Mr. Bernhardt was held Saturday morning at a Catholic church in Racine. Interment in that city.
