Adolf Hitler's bodyguard.

Born in Alt-Schalkowitz near Oppeln in the Province of Silesia (now Stare Siokowice, Poland).

Orphaned at the age of two and was adopted by his Grandparents.

Joined the Nazis party in 1937, which later got him a job within Hitler's circle and the member of the SS.

Fought in World War Two, wounded at the battle of Modlin in 1939.

Awarded the Iron Cross (Second Class).

He was present at the Battle of the Bugle, before he was ordered back to Berlin to protect Adolf Hitler from the Soviet troops.

In the Führerbunker, he worked as the telephone operator for Hitler and his generals.

He was witness to the execution of ­Hermann Fegelein,the disposal of Adolf Hitler's and Eva Braun's bodies after their suicide, and was one of the last people to see the Goebbels' children alive before being poisoned by their mother Magda.

On May 2nd, 1945, he left the bunker with a few other soldiers before being captured by Soviet troops.

Released from prison in 1954.

Worked as an art collector, and had some odd jobs among others as a bodyguard and as a driver.

He publicly spoke about protecting the Führerbunker in the 1990's after it was located following the downfall of Communism.

He was interviewed about his contact with Hitler and what he remembered about the Second World War and the final days of the Third Reich.

Served as a consultant for the 2008 film Valkyrie, a depiction of the 20 July plot.

Became the last surviving member of the Führerbunker in 2008.
