L.J. Spiering, 83, lifelong farmer FOREST GROVE

Lawrence J. Spiering, 83, Forest Grove, died March 17, 1990, at Maryville Nursing Home after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at St. Francis Church in Roy, with the Rev. Stephen Breitenstein and the Rev. Ervin Vandehey of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery in Roy.

Mr. Spiering was born Feb. 19, 1907, in Greenville, a son of Joseph and Petronella Vanderzanden Spiering.

He attended Roy School and had lived in the Roy area all his life. On Nov. 9, 1933, he married Rita Vandehey in Verboort, and they observed their 56th wedding anniversary last November.

Mr. Spiering farmed all his life, raising cattle and wheat. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Spiering, Forest Grove; three sons, Allen Spiering, Duane Spiering and Ron Spiering, all of Banks; two daughters, Joann Peters of Forest Grove and Sharon Wood of Los Angeles, CA.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven step-grandchildren; a brother, Louis M. Spiering of Forest Grove; and two sisters, Agnes Heesacker and Gertrude Landauer, both of Forest Grove.

Forest Grove Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
