John Caris, DO, of New Port Richey, FL, formerly of Flint, MI, passed away on September 9, 2013 at home with his family by his side. John was the loving husband of Christine Caris (Magas), father of Mary Caris Herzog and Nancy Caris Markos, devoted son of the late Mary Caris (Behrakis) and Peter Caris, brother of Freida Lemos (Caris). He is also survived by his six grandchildren. Born in Springfield MA on August 22, 1922, he grew up in New York City. John proudly served his country in WWII and later graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He married Christine in 1956, practiced in Flint, MI until 1984 and retired to New Port Richey, FL where he volunteered for the Health Department. Dr. Caris was passionate about patients he served and sometimes bartered with for chickens and home-made wine, running the Bobby Crim, swimming in the Atlantic in Maine and promoting the use of Cough CPR with the goal of saving lives. Funeral services to be held Friday, September 13 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, New Port Richey, followed by internment and graveside Military Honors in the Florida National Cemetery.
