Born Oct. 4, 1930, in Joplin, Mo., she was the daughter of Dean and Katie (Kirby) Cunningham. The family moved to Riverton, where she graduated from Riverton High School.
On Dec. 7, 1947, June married Chuck Shaw in Riverton. To this union were born three sons. The couple enjoyed square dancing, which Chuck was a caller for in Fremont County. Chuck died in 1975.
June married Joe Alaniz on Dec. 26, 1977. They moved to Thermopolis in 2000. In 2007, June converted to the Catholic faith, the tradition of Joe. She was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
When asked what kinds of work she did over the years, she took great pride in saying, "housewife." Her hobbies included playing golf, fishing, sewing, crocheting, quilting and
growing flowers. The family dogs, PeeWee and Herky, were her companions for many years.
Joe died in 2008. In 2010, June moved to Homestead Assisted Living in Riverton to be closer to her son, Rod. She later moved to Wind River Healthcare.
Survivors include her son, Rod (Margaret) Shaw; daughter-in-law, Susan Shaw, all of Riverton; brothers, Buckley (Sid) Cunningham of Canada and Chadwick (Roberta) Cunningham of Longview, Wash.; sister, Diana (Brooks) Luke of Thermopolis; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Weldon and Donna Althoff.
June was preceded in death by her husbands; grandparents, Drury and Rebecca (Yates) Cunningham, and Thomas and Anna (Nielson) Kirby; parents; and sons, Samuel and Brad Shaw.
