Nicholas Ruder, 85, Shawnee, KS passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Nicholas was born March 20, 1928 to Albert and Adeline Ruder.

He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII. Nicholas worked with Southwestern Bell for 35 years, retiring in August 1985. Following his retirement, Nicholas finished his career with MCI in 1990.

Nicholas was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruder on Oct. 21, 1992, daughter, Jan Ruder on Oct. 15, 2011 and daughter-in-law, Nancy Ruder, July 22, 2010.

Survivors include his four daughters, Laura and Jeff Miller, Overland Park, KS, Sue and Steve Sharpe, Lenexa, KS, Dianne and Kevin Fonte, Overland Park, KS and Amy and Larry Bowline, Shawnee, KS; son, Nick Ruder, Shawnee, KS; brother, Tony Ruder, Hays, KS; Ten grandchildren, Jeffrey & Lisa Miller, Beth and Carl Sammon, Johanna Ruder, Steven and Laurel Sharpe, Scott and Angie Sharpe, Sam, (Brother Lazarus) Sharpe, Nicholas Fonte, Makenzie, Emily and Gracie Bowline. Eight great grandchildren, Marin, Cori, Savannah, Charlotte, Samson, Syriana, Jalen, & Declan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 am Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall, Kansas City, MO 64145 or American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO 64105.
