David J. Gorte, 81, of 4302 Anderson Dr., All-Bright Shores, died Saturday, April 30, at his home.

Born in Saginaw on August 1, 1901, he lived in Saginaw and Harrison before moving to Gladwin County in 1963. He served in the Army in World War I. He was a civilian electrician with the Navy and also in construction. Mr. Gorte was a member of the Wooden Shoe United Methodist Church, the Gladwin Fraternal Order of Eagles 3292, the IBEW Local 557 of Saginaw, Billings Township road commissioner for several years, a founder of the Senior Citizens Center and Memorial Hall on Highwood Rd. and a charter member and president of the Billings Township Senior Citizens Club.

He was married to Marian Wheelwright on March 1, 1980, in the Wooden Shoe.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 step-children, Larry Wheelwright of Los Angles, Jim Wheelwright in the Navy and Tari Wheelwright of Alpena; 2 sisters, Mrs. Pauline York of Toledo and Mrs. Millie Reynolds of Saginaw; and 8 grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Carter Miller officiated and entombment was in Oakwood Mausoleum, Saginaw. Gladwin County Record dated 5-4/1983
