Mr. George Rueffler passed away at the Stettler Health Centre on Saturday May 9, 1998.George was born in Freital, Germany on February 14, 1910, the second son of Karl and Hedwig Rueffler. George came to Canada in 1924 with his parents and younger brother, and they took up farming in the Esther area. In 1933, George married Lavina Bauer. In 1934, they moved to the Stettler district to farm their own land and raise their five children. They continued to farm throughout their marriage, taking the time to make five trips to Germany as well as to Jamaica, Cuba, the mountains and the United States. Spring brought great joy to George in seeing the newborn calves, the freshly tilled soil and seeding of the fields. George always got great enjoyment out of seeding and harvesting and he did so with a profound sense of pride. The sight of the fields creating golden waves always made him smile.

George was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Eric Rueffler and Kurt Rueffler, infant sister, Lisbeth Rueffler and daughter, Sylvia Weigum.
