Mr. August F. Busch saw the light of the world on 6 February 1842 in Minster, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Busch. His parents came from Germany and his father was the first squire in the former Stallotown, now named Minster. The deceased left school at a young age to take a position as a foreman on a canal boat, where he worked for many years. Later he learned the trade of cooper and worked at first for the F. Herkenhoff & Thieman Cooperage, then later for Hm. Gerke Hoff Cooperage. The last place he worked, for even more years, was for the present Minster Cooperage Co. He was a very good craftsman and an industrious man. He set aside his trade 16 years ago and has since spent his days at home. He was a very sincere and an honest man and lived a home-centered life, caring little about worldly events. He lived a good life and was a member of the local St. Augustine congregation.
In 1866, in his 24st year, he united in wedlock with Carolina Stetskamp. His wife preceded him into eternity about 25 years ago, in August 1891. The marriage was blessed with eleven children, of which only a daughter, Philomina has died [Philomena was born 18 May 1888 and died at the age of 3 days, 21 May 1888]. Ten children survive the deceased: Henry Busch, Josephine Ortman and Carrie Busch, Minster; Rose Krug and Anna Braun, Dayton; Agnes Busch, Minster; Elizabeth Speyer, Dayton; Joseph Busch, Celia Haffner and Mayme Sage, Minster. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, as well as many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Burial will be Monday morning [19 June 1916] at 8:30, following worship services in the Church of St. Augustine, in the cemetery of the same name.
