Mrs. John Myers
In the death of Mrs. John Myers who passed away at her home in this village Friday forenoon, April 10th [1914], another pioneer has gone to join the ranks of those who have crossed the silent river. Death was due principally to the infirmities consequent upon old age. She had been in feeble health for the past few years. About a month ago she was taken to her bed and for the last week before her death she lay most of the times in deep stupor, passing quietly away on the tenth without apparent pain.

Mary J. Laird was born in Huntington County, Penn., June 2, 1842. In 1854 the family moved to Fayette county, Iowa, where on October 25th, 1862 she was united in marriage to John Myers, where they resided until the year 1878, when the family migrated to Minnesota, arriving in Graceville Dec. 8th. The following spring the family settled on a homestead north of Barry in Traverse county and in 1900 moved to Barry where they resided for one year and then to Beardsley. She was the mother of eight children, seven of whom are living and were with her when the end came. They are as follows: W.H.,J.F., and M.J. and Miss Maggie Myers and Mrs. D. Coughlin, all of this place and G.L. of Barry and A.A. of Graceville. The funeral was held on Monday from St. Mary's church and was very largely attended. Rev. Father Casey conducted the services. The remains were interred in St. Mary's cemetery where the last sad rites were performed for the aged beloved mother and neighbors. In the funeral procession were many old friends and former neighbors from a distance who came to pay their last sad respects to the deceased. Beardsley News, April 16, 1914.
