Gaynell Pirkle McAtee, 82, of 142 Millbrook Circle, Taylors, and formerly of Perry Road, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at her residence.

Born in Barrow County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Ellie Coker Pirkle and the widow of Ralph McAtee. She was a retired waitress with New China restaurant.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, Betty M. and P.W. Bell, Jenny M. Davis, Stephen and Janice Smith McAtee, and Randall and Brenda Williamson McAtee, all of Greenville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Karen B. and Paul Huppertz, Andrew L. and Carol Bell, Travis and Crystal McAtee, Kevin and Stacy McAtee, Stephanie M. and Alan Mills, Jason McAtee, Kelly Marie Davis and Adam Patrick Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Bell, Andrew Bell, Cameron Huppertz, Rachel Huppertz, Krystin McAtee, Skyler McAtee, and Grabriella Mills; one brother and sister-in-law, William H. and Marcelle Pirkle of Greenville; and predeceased by one sister, Alice Stinchcombe, and five brothers, James Pirkle, Clifford Pirkle, Woodrow Pirkle, Alton Pirkle, and Virgie Pirkle.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Remembrance Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice, 414-A Pettigru St., Greenville, SC 29601.
