In 1881 Henry and his wife, Johanna (b. June 1853 in Germany) immigrated to Albine, Nebraska with his father in-law Henry Ahrens and their one year old son Henry Jr. Joanna and Henry had 3 more children in Nebraska, and Johanna died there. In 1902 the family moved to the Innisfail district in Alberta where they purchased their own homestead just north of Innisfail, from Mr. S.P. Fream. Henry farmed and bought and sold pigs for Pat Burns. They had as many as 1500 at a time, and prices ranged from 6-3/4 to 2 cents a pound.
