Mrs. Fred Vergin Dies Very Suddenly
The community received one of its saddest shocks Friday when word passed around that the spirit of Mrs. Fred Vergin had passed to its reward, at her home at Bass Lake, following an illness of only a few hours' duration.
Funeral services were held from the St. John's Lutheran Church at Bass Lake, Sunday afternoon, in charge of Rev. P. C. Barth. Interment was made in the cemetery nearby.
Minnie (Werner) Vergin was born at Wanatah, Ind., August 11, 1856 and died at Knox, Indiana, February 2, 1922, age 65 years, 5 months and 22 days.
At the age of 13 she was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Wanatah and continued a faithful, consecrated member of that denomination and practiced the many christian virtues throughout her long, useful life.
On January 19, 1875, she was united in marriage to Fred E. Vergin and to this union seven children were born, five sons, John, Fred, Henry, William and Carl; two daughters, Lena and Alvina, all of whom together with the heart-broken husband mourn her departure and cherish her memory.
She was grand-mother to nine and grand-children and one great-grandchild.
Deceased was from a family of ten children, six of whom survive and with the members of the immediate family mourn her death. Aside from these she is mourned by innumberable relatives and friends, who remember her motherly kindness and disposition and fondly cherish remembrances of the many kindnesses tendered them throughout her many years of association with them.

Among the many relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral of Mrs. Fred E. Vergin last Sunday were: August Vergin family and Herman Werner and wife, of Kouts, Henry Werner and family, of Union Mills, Theodore Werner and family, of Hammond, William F. Werner, and family and Mrs. Herman Vergin and family, of La Crosse.

Both articles were published in The Knox Starke County Democrat (Knox, IN), on Wednesday, February 8, 1922, pg. 1.
