AGED WOMAN DIED AT HER HOME IN MINSTER ON WEDNESDAY MORNING

Death removed one of the oldest citizens of Minster on Wednesday morning of this week. The venerable Mrs. Bernadine Feldman closed her eyes in the everlasting sleep of death at 6:45 o'clock at her residence after she had been ill over a period of four months.

Mrs. Feldman reached the age of 80 years, 2 months and 2 days and it is a noteworthy fact that she practically lived continuously at one site. She was born Dec 24, 1844, in a house that stood almost within a stone's throw of her late residence and she lived at that place until she grew to young womanhood. After her marriage to the late Henry Feldman, they established their home in a residence just a short distance south of the birthplace and they both ended their days there.

Mr. Feldman died during the month of September in 1929 at the age of 93 years. In his time he had offered service of special importance to the public and he had lived to see the town and its environs advance to a state of great civic efficiency. Following his death, Mrs. Feldman continued to reside in their home midst the memories of a life that had been well ordered.

Mrs. Feldman's parents were Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Richter and they were both born in Germany. It is recorded that they came to America many years ago and after tarrying for a short time in Cincinnati they came to Minster to establish their home. The father was the owner of two canal boats that plied along the Miami-Erie canal between Toledo and Cincinnati and he was perhaps operating these boats at the time of his death.

The father died when Mrs. Feldman was less than three years old and the mother passed away after she had reached the age of four years. Following the death of her mother she was taken into the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kavalage, and she was being cared for by them when the cholera became an epidemic in this locality. While the people were almost terror stricken, her grandfather fell a victim of the disease and she was left in charge of her grandmother.

The marriage of this woman to Mr. Feldman took place at the church in Minster on Dec 1, 1860 and they lived together for more than one half a century. Five children were born to them and of that number three daughters passed away several years ago: they were Rose, Anna and Adeline Feldman. A son, John Feldman and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Hackemoeller are living, both of Minster. There are three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The deceased was a life time member of the St. Augustine church and she was identified with the St. Monica society of that congregation. The funeral will be held at the church on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with Rev. Sixtus Meyer, C.PP.S., officiating.
